Published, Jordan Independent Newspaper March 14, 1918, p.4, col.4 JACOB SVOBODA It is with deep regret that we chronicle the death of Jacob Svoboda this week, which occurred at his home on Saturday, March 9th at 6 P.M. Death came very suddenly. While shoveling snow in front of his home, he received an attack of heart failure and before assistance reached him, life was extinct. Deceased was born in Austria on May 16, 1855. He came to America in September of the year 1860 and settled here, being one of this city’s pioneer residents. He was married to Mary Kubes on November 6, 1873, who, with seven children, survives him. The children are Mrs. Frank Horejsi, Mrs. H. J. Penners, Mrs. Joseph Matyas, Jr., Mrs. Frank Kasal and Mrs. Frank Pesek, Jr. of this city, Henry Svoboda of Owatonna and Frank Svoboda, whose present address is not known. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Kate Suchomel, also of this city. The funeral was held from St. Wenceslaus Catholic church on Tuesday, March 12th at 10 o’clock A. M., Rev Dean Cermak officiating. The pallbearers were Frank Matyas, John Jelinek, John Bilek, John Hamer, Sr., John Herman, and Albert Kalvas. Deceased was a member of the C. S. D. P. J. No. 5 Society, which society marched in a body at the funeral. Among those from out of town present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jirek and Mrs. John Topka of Montgomery. Miss Rose Horejsi arrived from Des Moins Ia. on Tuesday, too late to attend the funeral.
