Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 at the East Line Street Cemetery for long-time Bishop resident, Edna L. Ermels, Pastor Kenton Puls will officiate. Born Feb. 18, 1909 in Rushville, Ill., Edna died at her home in Bishop on Oct. 1. She was 100 years old. Edna moved to Huron, S.D., with her parents as a young child. She was raised in Huron and eventually graduated high school there. She then got a job with Northwestern Public Service Company. At the age of 30, she moved to California and was employed by Southern California Edison for 31 years. After retiring, her and husband, Joe traveled for six years before settling in Bishop in 1978. Edna was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed activities at the Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe in 1997; step-son John; along with her parents, three brothers and a sister. Edna is survived by her closest friend, Sally Kendrick of Bishop; step-son, James and his wife, Suzie Ermels of Paulden, Ariz; step-daughters Elmira Tastad of Lake Stevens, Wash., Gale and husband Cyrus Woodel of Placerville; niece, Phyllis and her husband Bob Mann of Mesa, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Arlene Schroder of Fairbault, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
