PROMINENT HOMER CITIZEN DIED LAST WED. Rites for A. Harris Held Thursday Afternoon From Residence Mr. A. Harris, 58, a prominent man and life long resident of Homer, died at a Shreveport sanitarium last Wednesday afternoon, following a continued illness. The deceased was a life long member of the Homer Methodist church, and was closely identified with the business interest of Homer for a number of year. He began his business career, as we remember, as a ???keeper for A. McCraine; later ???ing management of the Homer Cotton Oil Mill. He organized and headed the A. Harris Oil Company which he later disposed of to the Standard Oil Company and became an agent of this company. During the East Texas oil boom he, with other local men, purchased a ?? store in Longview, Texas, which he operated until ill health forced him to retire. Regaining his health to some extent, he re-entered business in Homer, establishing the Harris Variety Store, which he sold only a short time prior to his death to Mr. ????, of Haynesville, having been unable for a year or more to tend to the business. Mr. Harris was a good man, devoted to his family, and spending much of his spare time at home. He acquired a large circle of friends who we join in extending sympathy to the bereaved family. Surviving besides the wife, are his mother, Mrs. Willie Harris; two sons, Austin and Collier Harris, one daughter, Auline; three brothers, Dr. E.K. Harris, of Shreveport; Gill Harris of Bernice, and Boatner Harris of El Dorado, Ark.; one sister, Miss Milner Harris, of Shreveport. Funeral services were held from the family residence last Thursday afternoon with interment in the Arlington cemetery. Rev. W.H. ???, assisted by Rev. V.L. McKee, officiated.
