Bio

Dayton was born in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana, but soon afterwards his father moved the family to Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. Dayton grew up in Claiborne Parish and attended the academy in Arizona, Claiborne Parish, that his father established. On July 4, 1881, he married Miss Willie Kidd Blackman. By 1889 Dayton was a professor at the Lisbon Academy in the Lisbon community of Claiborne Parish. By 1893 Dayton was the Superintendent of Public Schools for Claiborne County. At that time the family was living in Homer, Claiborne County. Dayton served as a Democrat in the Louisiana House of Representatives in 1892-1896. In the 1900 census Dayton was still with the school system, and his family was still living in Homer. Dayton's marriage to Willie Kidd Blackman ended in divorce in 1903. After his divorce Dayton moved to Texas and married Katie Sherrard in May 1903. That marriage ended in divorce, and he married May Bruce in 1908. At the time of his death he was living in Sherman and working as an insurance agent. An obituary for Dayton was published in a Sherman newspaper. Unfortunately it contains errors, and these errors were repeated in a family history book written in 1983.
