Bio

Celia Chumney, 98, passed away at her home in the Shive community near Hamilton early Friday morning, June 17, 2005. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church in Hamilton with burial in Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. Keith Felton officiating. Mrs. Chumney was born November 13, 1906, in Coryell County, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Eldon and Mary Jane Jones Harris. On December 21, 1924, she was united in marriage to Roy Arthur Chumney at Hamilton. They shared almost 60 years of life together prior to Mr. Chumney passing on November 27, 1984. Celia enjoyed rodeos, trail rides, and traveling to many family events. She was an avid quilter and pieced quilts for all the kids and grandkids. She enjoyed tatting and all kinds of needlework. She insisted on cooking for all who came to her home. She was a member of the First National Bank Travel Club, Home Demonstration Club, First Baptist Church, Builders Sunday School Class, and the Red Hat Club. Five children, Sarah Jo Lewis of Levelland, Celia Virginia Waldrep of Comanche, Carl Van Chumney of Stephenville, Jimmie Zane Chumney of Purmela and Jeanne Fay Tallent of Hamilton survive. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Imogene Marcella of Huntington Beach, CA; and one sister-in-law, Lucille Harris of Gatesville. Two sons, Billie Eldon Chumney and Roy Glen Chumney; one grandchild, Marshall Tallent; one sister, Fleta Wright; and two brothers, Eustas Harris and Audley Harris preceded her in death. Pallbearers were Cynthia Williams, Glena Bates, Karleece Nowlin, Donna Chumney, Kay Burnett, Valiene Bullinger, Karen Ann Joseph, Royce Ann Wiggins, Joe B. Allen, Clay Krueger, Damon Chumney, Vernon Krueger, James Waldrep, Raymond Waldrep, Donovon Tallent and Kyle Chumney.
