John Lukes [sic] John Lukes was born in Spillville, Iowa, June 24, 1871, and departed this life at Ord, Nebr., June 23, 1926, lacking one day of being fifty-five years old. At the age of eleven he came with his parents to Valley county, Nebraska. In 1898 he was united in marriage with Antonia Penas. To this union were born nine children, seven sons and two daughters. One son, at the age of three, preceded him to the world beyond fifteen years ago. For seventeen years they made their home on a farm near Burwell making that place their home for some time. From there they went to Taylor, where Mr. Lukes was engaged in the meat market business. In 1912 they moved back to the farm near Burwell. In 1918 he purchased a farm northeast of Ord, which has been his home till the time of his death. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, and his children, Albert, Joseph, Mrs. Phyllis Cernik, William, Edward, Emil, Eldon and Minnie. Besides his immediate family who mourn his departure are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lukes Sr., four brothers, Joseph, Albert, William and Frank, six sisters, Mrs. Mary Ptacnik, Mrs. Emma Ptacnik, Mrs. Anna Kosmata, Minnie, Elizabeth and Barbara, nine grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
