Published in the Ord Quiz, Ord, Nebraska “Jimmie” Sich Jr. 72, Korean War Veteran James 'Jimmie' Sich Jr., 72, of Ord died Thursday, August 16, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services will be at 11 am Monday at the Ord United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Ord Bohemian Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the grave site by the Ord VFW Post 7029 and American Legion Post 38. Mr. Sich was born Jan. 16, 1929 in Burwell to James S. Sr., and Rose (Masin) Sich. He attended District 35 rural school in Valley County and was a 1946 graduate of Ord High School. In March 1951, he entered the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict as an E-1 private and then E-4 sergeant. He was a skilled demolition explosive technician and was a member of the Engineers Battalion. He was honorable discharged in December 1952, then enlisted in the Reserve Corps for five years. He married Virginia A. 'Ginger' Wilson in Council Bluffs on Feb. 20, 1955. The couple farmed north of Ord for 20 years before moving into Ord. On March 1, 1966, he and Mel Masin began S&M Farm Equipment, which they operated for 25 years. He then was a salesman for one year when the business changed to Ord Equipment. He then retired and remained in Ord. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, elks Lodge, ZCBJ Lodge, Carp and Crow and Ord Volunteer Fire Department. He served a VFW Post 7029 Commander, VFW Department of Nebraska District 12 Commander, Veterans Memorial Board, Veterans Club Board and was Ord's Veteran of the Year. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James 'Jamie' A. III and Vickie of Grand Island and Jeffrey P. , and Jonna of Ord; a daughter, Susan J. Pritchard of Cedar Rapids, five grandchildren, and two sisters, Minnie Hosek of Ord and Lorraine Richards of Bloomington, Ind. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 19, 1998, one infant granddaughter and three brothers, Lumir, Bob and Leonard.
