Bio

Rosenberg Herald, January 20, 1939: Funeral services for Mrs. John Miller, aged 80 years, 4 months, and 3 days, who passed away Thursday morning, were held last Friday afternoon, January 13. Services were conducted by Rev. F.C. Anderson of Needville, assisted by Rev. Martin Ernst of Beasley. There was a brief period of devotion at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kettler at Beasley at 1 o'clock. The funeral procession then proceeded to Immanuel's Evangelical Church, Needville, where the main memorial service was held. At this service both Rev. Martin Ernst and Rev. F.C. Anderson brought short messages of comfort, the former in English and the latter in German. Interment took place in the Immanuel's Cemetery near Needville. Pallbearers were Ernest Hildebrandt, Alfred Kettler, Lee Roy Tielke, Raymond Tielke, Edmund Zich, Edvin Miller. The Foerster Funeral Home of Rosenberg had charge of arrangements. Mrs. Miller was born in Buffalo, N.Y. September 9, 1858. Her parents brought her to Texas when she was 3 years old. She was confirmed April 6, 1873 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Berlin, Washington County, Texas, by the pastor, Rev. Pfenning. She was married to John Miller at Berlin by Reverend Lettermann. The couple came to Fort Bend County in December, 1907. Mr. and Mrs. Miller were blessed with eight children, two of whom have already preceded them into life eternal. The six remaining children are Mrs. Henry Hildebrand of Caldwell, Mrs Henry Kettler of Beasley, and Mrs. Willie Tielke, Mrs. Charles Zich, John Miller, and Henry Miller of Needville. The aged couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on January 10, 1932. Mrs. Miller passed away two days after their wedding anniversary, hence their wedded life was 57 years and two days. The aged mother bore her cross of suffering for a long period, having been in ill health for many years. Twenty-five years ago, she broke her foot and since that time her health never was what if should have been. The last number of years her suffering began to be severe; she, however, had a very strong constitution and a strong will power, and she would rally and be up and around. They lived alone even in their old age but finally they both became quite infirm and moved to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kettler in Beasley. Mrs. Miller had been a member of the Tabea Evangelical Ladies' Aid of Needville for many years, and was up to the time of her death. She is survived by her husband, John Miller, who has attained the age of 87 years; the above named six children, 33 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Kramer of Burton. Sympathy is extended the bereaved husband and other loved ones.
