Fort Bend Herald, January 10, 2007: Caroline D. Bergen, 88, was born on February 6, 1918 to John Fajkus and Carrie Chalupa Fajkus in Wallis, TX. She passed away January 8, 2007 in Richmond. She married Frank Bergen December 1, 1935 in Friedens Evangelical Church in Beasley, TX. They moved to a farm in the Dyer-Random area where they farmed until their retirement. Caroline was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and Aunt Caroline to many nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Rosenberg, Martha Circle, Home Demonstration Club, Beasley Senior Citizens, and Lunch Bunch. Caroline will be remembered for her cooking skills for family and friends and her gardening, where she always had a bag of veggies to be given. She loved to play cards and dominoes and watch the Astros play. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years; her parents; her daughter, Doris Bergen Hargis; and her brothers, Sylvester, Simon, Leonard, and Daniel Fajkus. Caroline is survived by her loving son, George Bergen and his wife, Georgie, of Richmond; granddaughter, Deb Bergen Chappell of Coppell; grandson, Michael Bergen and his wife, Connie, of Magnolia; great-granddaughter, Kristyn Bergen of Magnolia; great-grandson, Austin Chappell of Coppell; sisters, Mollie Barta of East Bernard and Martha Viktorin and her husband, John, of East Bernard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends. In her last years, Caroline resided at Kateland Square in Richmond. The family wishes to thank the staff, nurses, and aides at Kateland Square, Dr. Vaughns and Dr. Hillary, for their wonderful care and friendship and to the 4th floor staff at OakBend Medical Center. The family would also like to thank everyone for their love and support. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M., with a wake service at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 11, 2007, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg, with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg, Reverend Dale Staggemeier will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Bill Bergen, Russell Viktorin, Rodney Fajkus, Larry Fajkus, Leonard John Fajkus, and Scott Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Deb Chappell, Connie Bergen, Mike Bergen, Austin Chappell, Kristyn Bergen, Dalton Hargis, and JoAnn Hargis.
