Mary Russell Nimz, 108, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Sharon Rutter-Bellamy, in Medford, OR. She was born August 24, 1904, in Knoxville, Tennessee. In 1923, Mary Russell, she preferred to be called "Russell," moved to Ellensburg, WA. and married J.E. Watterson in 1924. They had five children, June, Phyllis, C.C. "Neil", Sharon, and Jake. They later divorced. In 1965, "Russell" married Frank T. Nimz who died in 2004 one month shy of his 100th birthday. After Frank's death "Russell" then moved to Medford to live with her daughter, Sharon, where she lived until her death. During WWII "Russell," who was qualified as a practical nurse, took care of elderly people and did so for many years. Mom always had a garden with flowers and vegetables. She canned and dried fruits and vegetables. She was an avid reader reading two newspapers a day until just before her death and needed glasses only when reading. She was a Royal Neighbor of America for many years. She liked going to Seven Feathers Casino, not to gamble, but to see and visit the many people who knew her there including the entertainers. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Hill, Grants Pass, OR. and her children and extended family; her sons, C.C. "Neil" Watterson, Fort Collins, CO. and his children and extended family, J.E. "Babe" Watterson, Moses Lake, WA and his children and extended family; daughter, Sharon and her children and their families; half-sister, Juanita Dudley, Rogersville, TN. Special thanks to her granddaughter-in-law, Lisa and great-grandson, Manhua. She was preceded in death by her parents, John R. (1954) and Ida Cox; stepmother, Lillie Cox (1971); brother, William R. Cox; sister, Blanche (1989); half-brothers, James (1998), C.H. "Ranke" (1994), Charles, and John Jr. (1972); half-sisters, Beulah (1997), Eleanor (1988), and Ruby (2011); former husband, J.E. Watterson (1970); husband, Frank T. Nimz (2004), daughter, June Smoot (1991); sons-in-law, Donald C. Rutter (2003) and Billy F. Bellamy (2012). "She was an amazing woman!" "Russell" will be buried in Ellensburg, WA. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at IOOF Cemetery. She will always be missed!
