Nellie Goree "Granny" Parker was the daughter of Sterling Niblett Oliver and Mattie Malinda Wood. After the death of her mother, Nellie lived with her maternal uncle and aunt, Charlie and Willie Wood. They lived on the Filler Farm at Urbana and at Egypt. She also lived in Oakwood, Texas, in Nebraska, and in Vermont, where her husband Wade Unum Parker worked on the pipeline. They were married September 15, 1930, in San Jacinto County, Texas. Most of her life was lived in San Jacinto County, where she worked in several of the stores in Shepherd. Mainly, she is remembered as being the rural mail lady for the US Postal Service, from which she retired. She spent her last years in the nursing home at Shepherd. Her children were: Russell Eugene, Eloise, James Cecil, and Vernon Wade. She outlived all of her children. In her final years, was cared for by her daughter-in-law, Melba Slack Cronin Parker.
