Bio
Although Chauncey Stewart's obituary recorded that he was born in Genoa, Wisconsin, the household of his father of the same name was in Bloomfield, Walworth County, Wisconsin, per the 1870 U.S. Census and 1875 Wisconsin State Census. He was not born in Genoa, Vernon County, Wisconsin, which is nearly 200 miles northwest of Bloomfield, but there is a Genoa City nearby in Walworth County, Wisconsin, 3 miles southeast of Bloomfield. -Findagrave Contributor: Joan Stewart Smith ( 48837098 ) Long Time Resident Dies At 94 DANNEBROG (Special Dispatch) - Services for Chancey Stewart, 94, long time resident of Dannebrog will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog with the Rev. Walter Laughlin officiating. Mr. Stewart died Monday at a Grand Island nursing home. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Dannebrog, with Odd Fellows rites at graveside. Mr. Stewart was born Oct. 22, 1876 at Genoa, Wis., to Chancey and Mary Southworth Stewart. In 1880, he came to Nebraska with his parents to Howard County. Educated in the rural schools near Dannebrog, he grew to manhood there. On Feb. 24, 1909, he was married to Bertha M. Nielsen at Dannebrog. The couple farmed near there until they retired in 1941 and moved into Dannebrog. Both have resided at Parkside Homes Inc. in Grand Island since 1969. He was a member of the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and Big Oak Lodge No 387, both in Dannebrog. Survivors include his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Flynn of South Pasadena, Calif., three sons, Dale of Madison, Chancey of Denver and Wayne of Dannebrog; 12 grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, six brothers and three sisters.
