George Fitzhugh is the son of Peter Fitzhugh of Virginia and Nancy Dawson of Kentucky. From this marriage came four sons, George W., John H., Gabriel and Solomon plus five daughters, Nancy, Patsy, Betsy, Margaret and Polly. At age 22 George, joined the Kentucky Militia during the War of 1812. There is a bronze marker honoring him as a veteran of the War of 1812 next to his memorial stone. George married Elizabeth Rountree of Kentucky, December 19, 1816 in Hardin County, Kentucky. They had nine children: Martha Richardson, Gabriel H., Dudley Rountree, Nancy Dawson, Mary Elizabeth, Sarah Jane, Eliza Frances, Solomon and Susan Theresa Fitzhugh. George and Elizabeth moved to what is now Collin County, Texas in 1845. (Bio, Allen Rountree)
