☆~ VETERAN, WORLD WAR II (1939-1945) ~☆ Services were held Monday, July 13 for Lester W. Effle, 71, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton with Father John Rizzo officiating. Lester (Bud) Effle was born October 4, 1916 at Venus to Benjamin and Hilda (Kamms) Effle. He died July 10 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha of a stroke. Lester attended grade school District #26 of Knox County and graduated from Creighton Public School in 1934. He served in the Army for four years. While in the Army he served in WWII in North Africa and Italy. He was honorably discharged in October of 1945. On January 16, 1946 he was married to Gertrude Tharnish of Creighton at St. Ludger Catholic Church. To this union eight children were born. He farmed 12 miles southwest of Verdigre. Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; five sons, Jim, Bruce, Dave, Dan and Duane, all of Lincoln; two daughters, Susan Stephenson (Mrs. Tom) of Tacoma, Wash. and Mary Effle of Lincoln and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet, his parents, two brothers, Harold and Vernon and one sister, Jane. ...The Creighton News 15 July 1987
