Bio

John Henry Mosser, devoted and beloved son,brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, passed from this life into the next on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023. Viewing will be 11 a.m.-5p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, at Englunds Chapel in Slaton, followed by a visitation from 5-6 p.m. Rosary will be led by Deacon Benny Phillips at 6 p.m. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at Christ the King Cathedral in Lubbock with the Msg. Ben Kasteel officiating. Burial will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Born on April 14, 1926 in Lindsey, his family moved to Slaton, when he was 2 years old. He graduated from Slaton High School and remained lifelong friends with many of his classmates. After graduation he was drafted and served his country in the Navy during World War II. He married Janell Barton Kitten on Jan. 27, 1958, adopting her daughter Deborah. They quickly added three more daughters to their family - Connie, Carrie, and Susan. A trim carpenter by trade, he owned his own home building business for almost 50 years. He became known as one of the premier builders in the Lubbock region, and the homes he built are still highly sought after to this day. A lifelong faithful Catholic, he loved the Lord and the Church through his time, talent, and prayers. He never failed in his generosity and passes on a legacy of faith that will outlive him by many generations. He is preceded in death by his wife, his daughter (Debbie West), a granddaughter, Laura West, and 12 brothers and sisters. He is survived by three daughters, Connie McGuire of Abernathy, Carrie Griggs of Sanger, and Susan Watson of Lubbock, 11 grandchildren, Daniel West, Brent West, Jennifer McGuire Emerson, Alicia McGuire Pierce, Camille McGuire Baker, Matthew McGuire, Jarrad Reeves, Heath Reeves, Chelsea Watson, Melissa Watson Wilson, and Ryan Watson; 26 great-grandchildren, Austin, Kaitlyn, Atreyu, Tristan, Suede, Jude, Kingston, Ben, Lux, Audrey, Catherine, Grant, Elizabeth, Lila, Warren, Ellison, John Henry, Emily, Connor, Beckham, Owen, Grant, Rayden, Josie, Weston, and Cole; and one brother, Cecil Mosser. The family suggest memorials be made to Nurturing Center, 3306-66th St, Lubbock, TX 79413, St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, 908 Ave. J, Shallowater, TX 79363, or St. Anthony of Padua, 401 Maurer Ave, Anton, TX 79313.
