More information from Mary Caye Judd His full name is Elias Wampler Judd. He was born 10 April 1869 in Centralia, Appanoose Co., IA. He died 12 July 1928 at Liberal, Seward Co., KS. He married Ollie May Welker 13 Dec 1891 in Devon, Bourbon Co., KS. They had 3 sons and no daughters. Joseph Leroy Judd, born in Nebraska and died in California, Franklin Arthur Judd, born in Kansas and died in Texas, and a baby, Walter Cecil Judd born 30 Nov 1900 and died in 1901 possibly in Kansas. They were in Bourbon Co., Marion Twp, KS when the 1900 Federal Census was taken. "Elias worked for Laing Horse Ranch approximately 5 mi from Bridgeport, NE. The line camp was still standing at the Miller Place just south west. The Miller Place was at Middle Creek. "Elias homesteaded at Township 18, Range 51 on 2 sections 2 miles west of Glendale School. Elias built a sturdy rock barn that was still standing. He didn't have money for a roof so he put wire across the top & covered it with grass. The wire was still on. The house was gone. The house was about 1/2 way between the barn and the well. The well is down in dark grassy swale north west of the barn. It was hand dug by Eliias, Scott, and Ed. They dug it 4 ft wide and 52 feet deep. "The School was taught by Christina Dunlap - later Dugger. "When Frank's family moved to Hooker, OK when he was 13, Limon Boyer bought the place from Elias; Scott Welker bought it from them. (These 4 paragraphs from Oleen Judd after a trip to this area in the 1980's [before 1987] with Frank Judd) In about 1908 they started for California because of Elias' health. They went by Hooker, OK to visit his brothers before they left. They were planning to stay a month or two. While they were there a while his health was a lot better so they just stayed there. When they moved to Stratford, they bought 1/2 section 9 miles east of town. His son Frank traded his 1/4 section 8 mi NW of Texhoma for the other 1/2 section there. Later Frank bought Elias' 1/2 and Elias moved to Texhoma. It took Frank 22 years to pay for that 1/2 section. cemetery lot bought by Frank Judd
