Van Alstyne Leader August 5, 1960 - pg.1 James Veazey Last Rites Held Friday Morning Funeral services for James Veazey were held in the First Baptist Church last Friday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. E.G. Gregory, assisted by Rev. Ken Britt of the First Christian Church. Active pallbearers were Robert Veazey, Morris Bounds, Marcus Braddish, Robert H. Hynds, Joe Eatherly and Hansel Douglas. Interment was in the Van Alstyne City Cemetery, under the direction of the Flesher Funeral Home. In the funeral service, Rev. Gregory paid tribute to Mr. Veazey's sterling character, his loyalty to his friends, his devotion to his wife and children, and that he left as his great heritage four fine sons. Mr. Veazey had been in declining health for a number of years. About a month ago he was taken to a hospital in Ardmore, where his two physician sons might give him every attention. He died suddenly without pain last Tuesday morning at four o'clock. Mr. Veazey was born in Van Alstyne Nov 22, 1876, a son of the late Lyman C. and Sallie Mae Gregory Veazey. He was united in marriage in Van Alstyne with Miss Malta Blassingame in 1899. She preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 1955. He was a retired farmer and lumberman. He was a member of the Baptist Church for over half a century. He is survived by four sons, Dr. J. Hobson Veazey and Dr. Lyman C. Veazey of Ardmore: J. Rudolph Veazey of Lubbock and Harold W. Veazey of Van Alstyne; and by one brother, Lee Veazey of Van Alstyne.
