Bio
Leonard was born April 10, 1919, in Henderson, Nebraska to Jacob C. and Anna (Ott) Peters and passed away Friday, March 2, 2012, at his home in Hydro, Oklahoma. Leonard was raised and attended school in Henderson, Nebraska, where he graduated from high school in 1938. He attended a year of college at York College in York, Nebraska. Leonard married Jeanette Van Voorst on January 1, 1946, in Decatur, Michigan. They later moved to Newton, Kansas, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Bethel College. After graduation he taught school in Stapleton, Nebraska. They moved to Decatur, Michigan, and he finished his Master's Degree at Western Michigan University. In 1965, they moved to Hesston, Kansas, where they lived until 2005. At that time they moved to North Newton, Kansas, and lived there until 2010, at which time they moved to Hydro, Oklahoma, to be near their family. Leonard was a 42 year Charter Member of the Kansas Mennonite Men's Chorus. He enjoyed music, golf, reading, sports, and having coffee with his friends. Memorials may be made to the Mennonite Disaster Relief Fund or to the Kansas Mennonite Men's Chorus.
