VETERAN US MARINES WORLD WAR II Robert Laurence Smith passed away on 13 February 2013. He was born on 20 July 1927 in Springville, Utah to George Robert and Ina Carson Smith. He spent most of his youth in Salt Lake City. At age 17, during World War II, he joined the Marines. After his discharge he joined his family in Provo. He met and married Bonnie Darlene Rieske, the love of his life, on 3 August 1951. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple and spent 61 1/2 years together. He was an automobile repairman and operated a small auto repair for 34 years, along with his wife and family. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in bishoprics and the Quartzsite Branch where he and his wife spent many winters. He also served over 35 years in the scouting program. He was a member of the Search & Rescue for over 35 years, serving as Utah County and State Commander and many other positions. He loved the outdoors where he spent many, many hours with his family. He is survived by his wife, sons: Dean (Janet), David (Lisa), Jim, Jerry, and Kelly; 15 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters: George Jackie, Leon, Norma Jean Snyder, Barth, June Johnson, & Tora Baldwin. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lyle. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Grandview 5th Ward Chapel, 1555 North 1350 West, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Sunday evening from 6 until 8 and at the church Monday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
