Mr. Wilson, 86, died after a brief illness. Mr. Wilson was a native of Ringgold, LA and a resident of Shreveport for over 50 years. He was a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church and was active over the years in numerous civic, social and business organizations and was an avid golfer. He was active in the oil and gas drilling and contracting business from 1948 until his company, Fred Wilson Drilling Company was sold in 1979. He operated as an independent oil, gas and realty investor until his death. Mr. Wilson enlisted in the Aviation Cadets in 1942 and was sent to England with the 8th Air Force in 1943. He piloted a total of 30 B-17 missions with the Hell's Angels 303 Bombardment Group, twelve as squadron leader and seven as group leader. He was promoted to Captain and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, an Air Medal with Three Oak Clusters, a European Theater of Operations Medal and Two Bronze Stars. His last mission was flown on June 5, 1944. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Shirley McCollum Wilson, son, Paul McCollum Wilson as well as five brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Fontenot and husband Tony of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Carrie Leonard and husband Scott of Shreveport, Leah Sullivan and husband O'Neil of Lafayette and Lindsay Fite of Lafayette; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Leonard of Shreveport and Lola Sullivan of Lafayette; two sisters, Ann Calhoun of Heflin and Rena Withers of Fredericksburg, VA; three brothers, Pete Wilson of Shreveport, Bill Wilson of Eagle Lake, TX and Perry Wilson of Corpus Christi, TX; and many nieces and nephews. Interment with Military Rites was conducted by the 12th District, Department of LA Veterans of Foreign Wars HONOR GUARD at Forest Park Cemetery.
