http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~neplatte/vitals/vitals1960.html The Daily Telegram, May 13, 1960 KORUS--Alois Korus dies; funeral services Monday Alois (Slim) Korus, 59, Monroe farmer, died late Thursday afternoon in St. Mary's hospital. He had been ill about a year. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Platte Center with the Rev. Fr. John P. Downey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery near Platte Center. The body will lie in state at the McKown Funeral home from 1 p.m. Sunday until the hour of the service, and Rosary will be prayed there at 7 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Korus, a lifetime resident of Platte county, was born April 9, 1901 at Tarnov, the son of Joseph and Victoria Shemek Korus. He received his education at St. Michael's parochial school in Tarnov. On Sept. 9, 1925, Mr. Korus married Josephine Zabawa at St. Michael's Catholic church, and they have since lived on a farm five miles northeast of Monroe. He was a member of St. Joseph's parish in Platte Center and the Holy Name society. Surviving are his wife; four sons, Richard of Monroe, Harry and Duane of Platte Center, and Dave, at home; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Joe of Columbus, Ed of Omaha and Frank of Chicago; three sisters, Sister Ditva, OSF, of St. Michael's school, Tarnov, Mrs. Dorothy Wielgus and Mrs. Frank (Mary) Mostek of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Stanley, and two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Minnie) Brezenski and Mrs. Tom (Celia) Obal.
