Mertin married Carrie Bell Brower on June 20, 1893 at Pocahontas, Iowa. They were the parents of 6 children: Nola, Maurice, Archie, Harry, Mable, and George. Oct 6, 1941 - Carroll Times - Mertin E. Willey, who has lived in Carroll for the last two and one-half years, died at his home on North Grant Road about 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the age of 70 years. Mr. Willey had been in poor health for some time and bedfast since the forepart of July. His death was caused by pneumonia with which he was stricken the night before be passed away. ... Mr. Willey, who formerly, lived in St. Louis, moved to Carroll to assist in the care of his brother John H. Willey, who has been ill for a long time. Oct 8, 1941 - Carroll Times - Funeral services for Mertin K. Willey, who died at his home on North Grant Road Saturday afternoon, were conducted at the Huffman Funeral Home at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, with the Rev. W.F. Clayburg, minister of the Methodist Church, officiating. A quartet composed of Miss Wilma Mohler, Mrs. R.H. Lott, C.M. Bayliss and L.E. Sweany, sang "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages", accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Larry Kozal. Burial was in the Carroll Cemetory and pallbearers were George J. Hess, Abner Strohm, John T. Anderson, D.W. Hanssen, Ralph Crane and C.L. Farrell. Mertin Ellis Willey, born in Grant County, Wis., Mar. 15, 1871, died at the age of seventy years. He had been in poor health for several years. June 20, 1893, he was married to Carrie Bell Brower at Pocahontas, Iowa. For a number of years they made their home in Iowa, later moving to St. Louis, Mo., where they resided until three years ago when they returned to Iowa. They were the parents of six children, one of whom, a daughter, Nola, preceded her father in death. The other five are: Maurice of Los Angeles, Calif.; Archie, Harry and Mable of St. Louis, and George, at home. All of the children were here for the services with the exception of Maurice of California, who started to Carroll but was unable to continue the trip on account of the weather. Surviving with his wife and 5 children above named, are 8 granchildren and many other relatives.
