John was the son of Josiah Willey and Christian Thomas. He married Mary K Herges on July 15, 1878 in Jamestown, WI. They adopted Jerry Harrington. Oct 12, 1942 - Carroll Times - Funeral rites for John H Willey, 87, pioneer resident of Carroll county, who died early Saturday morning at his home, 721 North East street, are to be held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon at the Huffman Funeral Home, with the Rev W.F. Clayburg, minister of the Methodist church, officaiting. Burial will be in the family lot of the Carroll cemetery. Friends may view the body at the Huffman Funeral Home, where it is resting until the time of the rites. All Masons are requested to meet at the Masonic Temple at 2 o'clock Tuesday afteroon and go from there in a body to the funeral home to attend the rites for John H Willey. Mr. Willey, prominent retured farmer and land owner, was one of the early day settlers of Pleasant Valley township. He was born Aug. 27, 1855, in Richalnd Township, Grant county, WI, a son of Josiah and Christian Willey. In 1877 he came to Carroll county from Jamestown, WI with a team of oxen and located at Old Carrollton. He broke the prairie across the road from the store property in Carrollton. In the summer of 1878 he returned to Wisconsin, where he was married July 15, of that year to Miss Mary K Hurges. His bride accompanied him back to the Pleasant Valley township farm, where they lied until they moved int o town in 1906. Although he left the farm, Mr Willey did not retire entirely from farm work. He looked after his holdings as long as his health permitted Surviving Mr Willey are one son, Jerry Willey, at home; and two sisters, Mrs Sol Cundy (Addie) of Laurens, and Mrs Mary K Jackley, the latter of whom has made her home with Mr Willey for a number of years. His wife died March 15, 1923. He was also preceded in death by several sisters and brothers. Mr Willey attended the Methodist Church. He had been a member of the Masonic lodge for nearly 56 years. Feb 2, 1937, he was presented with a 50 year Masonic membership certificate, issued by the Grand Lodge of Iowa at the completion of 50 years of continuous membership in Signet Lodge No. 264, A.F. & A.M. At the same time, the local lodge presented Mr Willey with a Masonic pin. Mr Willey was a member of the Daily Times Herald Three-Quarter Century Club.
