"Anton F. Janak died suddenly at his home three miles north of Brainard at nine o'clock Saturday evening, October 27. He had not been well for several days but was able to be around having been to town in the afternoon. Apoplexy was the cause of his death. Mr. Janak was in his 49th year. He was born November 17, 1868 in Bohemia and when still a small child came with his parents to America and settled near David City. In 1890 he and Miss Katherina Sypal were married in David City and since that time have made their home on a farm near Brainard. Nine children were born to them. They are Anton, Joseph, Emil and Mrs. Anton Sakub, Peter, Mary, Anna and Hattie. The five later children living at home. Besides his wife and children Mr. Janak leaves one sister and three brothers near David City, all of whom were present at the funeral, which was held from the Catholic church Monday afternoon, conducted by Father Klein. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen order." - The People's Banner, Page 8; November 1, 1917 There is some discrepancy regarding his date of birth. the obituary says he was born 17 Nov 1868 in Mysletice, Okres Jihlava, Vysočina, Czech Republic.
