"Last Rites for Mrs. Katherine Janak, Who Died on March 28. Brainard, April 9—Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Janak, who died on Thursday, March 28, at her home in Brainard, following illness of a month with influenza, were held in Holy Trinity Catholic church, Brainard, at 10 a. m. Saturday, March 30. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Klein conducted the services. Members of the Rosary society, of which Mrs. Janak was a member, and the Young Ladies' Sodality and Knights of St. George attended the funeral as organizations. Mrs. Janak's brothers, J. A. Sypal, Joseph Sypal, Mike Sypal and Peter Sypal, of Brainard, her step-brother, John Polansko, of St. Paul, and her brother-in-law, Joseph Janak, were pallbearers. Burial was in the Brainard Catholic cemetery. Mrs. Janak's maiden name of Katherine Sypal. She was born on February 15, 1869, at Spillville, Iowa, and was 60 years of age at time of her death. When a young girl she came to Nebraska with her parents, they locating on a farm several miles northwest of Brainard. On May 4, 1890, she was united in marriage to Anton F. Janak. They lived on a farm three miles north of Brainard. Mr. Janak died in 1917 and three years later Mrs. Janak and her four younger daughters moved to Brainard. Mrs. Janak was the mother of nine children, four sons and five daughters, who survive her. They are Anton, Joseph, Emil, Peter, Mrs. Anton Jakub, Mrs. Frank W. Rejda, Veronica, Anne and Hattie. She also leaves four brothers, one step-brother and two sisters." The People's Banner, pg. 5, April 11, 1929
