Born in house #32, Lovetin, the daughter of Frank Vanicek and Anna (Pazhoda?). Immigrated from Chotabudice, Moravia, Austrian Empire (now in the Czech Republic) on the SS Pommerania , which left Hamburg, Germany on May 24, 1876 and arrived in New York City on June 7. The ship passenger list includes Vojtech Janak (age 46), Marie (46), Frantisek (21), Vojtech (19), Josef (9), Anton (8), and Antonie (2). The family settled in Franklin Township, Butler County, Nebr. where they farmed.
