He and his wife Cecilia were originally buried in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Ammannsville. There were moved to St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Schulenburg by their daughter Edna Watzlavick so that she could better tend to the graves.
He operated a saloon in downtown Schulenburg on Lyons Ave called Vacek's. After his death his brother Emil ran it for a few months until it closed around October 1904. He was one of the charter members of the Schulenburg volunteer Fire Department. He was the foreman of the hook and ladder company. Upon his death the department held a special meeting. For his funeral all the members wore white gloves, specially printed black ribbon badges and black crepe on their left arms. The fire bell tolled as he was taken to the cemetery.
