Born in the village of Vrbice, town of Habry, county of Caslav, Bohemia, Austrian Empire (now in the Czech Republic). On June 21, 1892, James Koutnik, of Nimburg, Nebr., age 23, born Bohemia, son of Joseph Koutnik and Maggie Pohoska [ sic ], married Mary Pennek [ sic ], of Omaha, Nebr., age 19, born Bohemia, daughter of Frank Pennek [ sic ] and Barbara Nedved, in Omaha, by Rev. Father William Choka. According to his probate file he was survived by his wife Mary, seven-year old daughter Anna, and a son James, born after his death. According to the 1900 census (enumerated on June 5) Mary Koutnik, widow, born November 1873 in Bohemia, emigrated to the United States in 1890, mother of one child, lived in Linwood township, Butler County with her daughter, Anna Koutnik, born April 1893 in Nebraska, and her brother, Frank Reynek, born April 1885 in Bohemia, emigrated to the United States in 1891. Mary Koutnik married her second husband Joseph Satorie on March 31, 1902 in Linwood, Nebr. ''''''' The Nebraska State Journal (Lincoln, Nebr.), March 9, 1900, p. 5, col. 3 Farmer Commits Suicide. LINWOOD, Neb., March 8. – James Koutnik, a farmer aged thirty-two years, committed suicide by taking strychnine while in town yesterday afternoon. Motive is unknown.
