Born in the village of Vrbice, town of Habry, county of Caslav, Bohemia, Austrian Empire (now in the Czech Republic). Josef Koutnik (age 40, shoemaker) and Anna Koutnik (38), and their children Anna (15), Maria (9), Katha. (8), and Wenzl (6), all born Bohemia, emigrated to the United States emigrated to the United States aboard the SS Ohio which arrived in Baltimore, Maryland from Bremen, Germany on September 19, 1873. Other passengers included the Jan Barta and Mariji (Pavel) Barta family, the Frantisek Krenk and Katerina (Pipek) Krenk family, and Josef Hamsa and Maria (Voboril) Hamsa . According to her husband Joseph's probate file he lived in Linwood Township in Butler County, Nebr., died September 25, 1877, and was survived by the following heirs: Anna (widow), Annie, Mary, Katie, James (son), Antonie, and Joseph. The 1880 census states that Annna was a widow, 40 years old, born Bohemia, and farmed in Linwood Township with her children: Katie (16, Bohemia), Jim (14, Bohemia), Joe (6, Nebr.), and Toney (9, Nebr.). According to the 1885 census she was 50 years old, born Bohemia, a widow, and farmed in Linwood Township with her children Vincent (18, Bohemia), Antonia (16, Bohemia), and Joseph (10, Nebr.).
