MARRIAGE ANNOUNCEMENT: Ethel Derrick, daughter of Mr. Dave Derrick, was married at the Derrick home near White Cloud on Wednesday to Earl Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moore. The surprise of the day was the announcement that Dave Derrick, father of the bride, and Mrs. Jennie Butler had been secretly married in Hiawatha Monday. Mrs. Butler, whose home is in Missouri, has kept house for Mr. Derrick and Ethel the past three years. They will move to Hiawatha. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Derrick will live on the home place. The young couple will live on a farm of his father. Robinson Index, December 15, 1927 ---------------------------- OBIT: Ethel D. Moore, 91, of Hiawatha, died early Friday morning, July 26, 1996, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha, where she had been a resident since December 1993. She was born at White Cloud, September 13, 1904, the daughter of Dave and Louise Koelling Fenner Derrick, and had lived in this area all of her life. She was graduated from Hiawatha High School. She was a homemaker. She was married to Earl Moore December 7 [14], 1927, at Robinson. They lived in the Zion Community near Robinson, where they farmed, raised greyhounds, operated a dairy, and beekeeping. Her greatest joy was raising queens in Louisiana for their bee operations. Earl and Ethel moved to Hiawatha in 1972. They retired from full time beekeeping in 1974. He died September 12, 1978. Mrs. Moore was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church of Robinson, before transferring her membership to the First United Methodist Church of Hiawatha; the United Methodist Women of the Church; and Zeith Chapter #184 O.E.S. of Hiawatha. She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Orban Derrick, Virgil Derrick; two half-brothers; Edgar and Hasson Derrick; three sisters: Lillie Mensen, Clara Myers, and Fannie Gladhart. Survivors include a son, Wesley Moore and wife Edna, of Mankato, Ks.; a sister-in-law, Catherine Moore, of Emporia; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a step-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday, July 29, 1996, at 10:30 a.m. at the Framke-Casselman-Meek Funeral Home. Reverend Walter R. Brant will officiate. Interment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Mrs. Moore will lie in state Saturday and Sunday at the Framke-Casselman-Meek Funeral Home, where the family and friends will meet Sunday afternoon from 3-5 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ethel Moore Memorial Fund, to be designated later by the family, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
