Bio

OBIT: Virgil Derrick, 60, prominent Brown County farmer, was killed yesterday in a tractor accident northeast of Hiawatha in the Zion community. Derrick was found by Lawrence Sabbert and Don Shreve at 7 p.m., pinned beneath the overturned tractor in a creek bed. He had been clearing brush. Dr. Ray Meidinger, Brown County coroner, said Derrick had been crushed to death and apparently died instantly. Mr. Derrick was last seen about noon yesterday. When he didn't arrive home for an evening meal, his wife telephoned neighbors who searched for him. Surviving are Mrs. Derrick of the home and a son, Holton Derrick, California. The Meek Mortuary at Hiawatha is in charge of funeral arrangements. Atchison Daily Globe, May 19, 1964
