Banner-Press (David City, Nebr.), May 24, 1979 Funeral Services held for Mrs. Joseph Samek. Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph J. (Hattie E.) Samek of David City were conducted Wednesday morning, May 23, from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mrs. Samek, 69, died suddenly Monday, May 21, at the Butler County Hospital from an apparent heart attack. Mass was concelebrated by Msgr. A.J. Lisko and Father Bob Roh of Bellwood. Also present in the sanctuary was Father Stanley Schieffer of Bruno. Galen Svoboda of Bruno was commentator. Mrs. Ray Vanis was organist. Members of St. Mary’s PCCW attended in a group. Pallbearers were Chris Riha, a grandson, and Tom Weverka, Norman Weverka, Don Svoboda, Norman Hofbauer and Lawrence Kovar, nephews. Burial was in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Abie. Hattie E. Samek, the daughter of Ludvik and Mary Kucera Weverka, was born Oct. 19, 1909, near Bruno. On Nov 17, 1937, she was united in marriage to Joseph J. Samek at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard. Two children were born to this union. Following her marriage, they farmed near Abie, until retiring into David City in April of 1978. A homemaker, she was a member of the Catholic Church her entire life. While living near Abie, she was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. Since moving into David City, she became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and PCCW. She is survived by her husband, Joseph J. Samek of David City; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan M. and Ray Riha of David City; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry J. and Susan Samek of Linwood; one brother, Henry Weverka of Bruno, five sisters, Agnes Rech, Julia Kucera, Mrs. Tom (Georgia) Hofbauer and Mrs. Fred (Helen) Kovar of David City and Mrs. James (Martha) Anderly of Valparaiso; and four grandchildren, Barb Riha of Lincoln, Jeanne and Chris Riha of David City and Brienna Joy Samek of Linwood. Her parents, one sister, Mrs. Don (Henrietta) Sypal of Omaha, and one brother Adolph Weverka of Hillsboro, Ore., preceded her in death. - obituary provided by Cynthia Duris Hirst
