Thanks to Find A Grave contributor #47213538; Floyd Alan Beams, 70, of Blacksburg, Va., died Friday (11/12/04) at the New River Valley Medical Center. He was born in Arcadia on Aug. 22, 1934, to the late William and Nellie Thompson Beams. He was preceded in death by his brother James W. Beams and two nephews. He was a professor of accounting at Virginia Tech, where he retired in 1995 after 28 years. He was active in the Institute of Management Accounting. He wrote an advanced accounting textbook, numerous articles for accounting journals, and group and self-study courses for the AICPA. He received his B.S. and M.A. from the University of Nebraska, and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Thais Plank Beams, of Blacksburg; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jay Beams of Roanoke, Va., Joe Beams and Anita Houser, of New Orleans; four grandchildren, Justin Lowe stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Japan, Amanda Houser, Andrew Beams and Chase Beams, all of New Orleans; three sisters, Gwendolyn Keldsen and Belle Burt, both of Lincoln, Faith Beams, of Germantown, Md.; niece Brenda Cummings, of Grand Island, and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the caregivers, Hunter Jones, Justin Catacchio, Jim Moritz and Cindy Burke. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, McCoy Funeral Home. The Rev. Reggie Tuck. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens of New River Valley Blacksburg, Va. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, S.W., Blacksburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Tech Foundation for the Floyd A.
