Married Lucinia Sonka (license dated October 12, 1881 Colfax County, Nebr., no return). ''''''''' The Peoples Banner (David City, Nebr.), April 20, 1939, p. 5, col. 4 JOHN J. BARTUNEK John J. Bartunek, who was born in Czechoslovakia on August 17, 1858, passed away on April 14, 1939, at his home in Abie. He was a son of Mathew and Marie Bartunek and came to this country in the summer of 1873. On September 28, 1881, he was united to marriage to Miss Lucie Shonka at the St. Peter and Paul church in Abie. To this union were born twelve children. Alois passed away at the age of six months and Julia at the age of three years. The surviving children are Mrs. (Emma) John V. Samak and Mrs. (Lucie) Joseph F. Prohaska of Abie, Mrs. (Marie) John J. Svoboda and Mrs. (Amelia) Louis Yindrick of David City, Mrs. (Anna) Joseph Tschantre of Clarkson, William A. and John F. of Bee, Frank J., Joseph A. and Vaclav A. of Abie. He also leaves a brother, Frank Bartunek of Bison, Oklahoma and sisters, Mrs. Marie Molacek and Mrs. Emma Samtlan of Schuyler and Mrs. Anna Klimes. Mr. Bartunek came from the old country and first settled in Chicago for two years then came to Schuyler onto a farm 7 miles northwest and in September, 1881, moved 4 miles southwest of Abie. On January 14, 1925, he and his wife retired from the farm and moved into their house in Abie. Mr. Bartunek was a successful farmer all his life and educated his children well. He was a devout member of the Catholic church and a member of the Catholic Workman and Holy Name Society. Funeral services were held on April 17th at 9:30 a.m. from St. Peter and Paul Catholic church in Abie, with Rev. Father Alcuin J. Kasny officiating. The pallbearers were Mr. Bartuneks grandsons, Joseph Samek, Victor Svoboda, Raymond Bartunek, John Bartunek Jr., Eugene Bartunek and Joe Prochaska Jr. St. Peter and Paul church choir furnished the music and burial was in the Catholic cemetery at Abie. __ Card of Thank – We wish to thank our relatives and many friends who so kindly assisted at the time of our recent bereavement, especially Father Kasny, also for the many spiritual bouquets and floral offerings.
