Rech Killed in Harvest Field While Cutting Wheat. John H. Rech, brother of Ed T. Rech, former county assessor, was struck by lightning and instantly killed about 9 o'clock on the morning of July 6 while driving a binder, cutting wheat on the farm of his brother, Ed T. Rech, six miles east of David City. The latter was driving another binder in the same field and was only ten yards behind his brother when the lightning struck. The bolt entered the side of the young man's head and passed down his neck and side. He fell from the binder. His team was uninjured, but became frightened and ran away, demolishing the harness and binder. The funeral services were held on Tuesday morning, July 8, in the Holy Trinity Catholic church in Brainard, of which church Mr. Rech was a member. The services were conducted by Rev. Father Klein. The pallbearers were Joseph Janak, Albert Janak, Joseph Kopecek, John S. Rech, Joseph Ruzek and Frank Rejda. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery at Brainard. John H. Rech was 28 years of age. He was born in Butler county and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rech. He was married, and leaves a wife and two children, a daughter three years of age and a son six months old. He is survived also by his parents, by four brothers, Ed. T., Joseph E. and Charles and James Rech, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Rejda, all residing in this county.
