Services for Prentiss B Smith, 82, of Greenwood, who died of heart failure Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. today at Williams & Lord Funeral Home. Mr. Smith was retired from the Greenwood Fire Department, where he served as assistant fire chief. He was also an electrician. A native of Calhoun City, he resided in the Greenwood area for most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II, where he received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Bronze Arrowhead and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of North Greenwood Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Scott Smith of Greenwood; a daughter, Sammie Kay Lafleur and her husband, James, of Baker, La.; two sons, Donnie Joe Smith and his wife, Shirley, and Ren Smith and his wife, Susie, all of Greenwood; three sisters, Donice Terry of Pittsboro, Dorothy Harrellson of Calhoun City and Doris Suggs of Summit; one brother, Melvin Smith and his wife, Yanci, of Calhoun City; three grandchildren, Trudy Angel of Baker, Shiloh Smith of Horn Lake and Morgan Lindsey Smith of Greenwood; one stepgrandchild, Mike Christman of Greenwood; and five great-grandchildren. The Rev. Dr. Jim Phillips will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Glen Green, Ronnie Parker, Scott Schrader, Lewis Jones Jr., Doug Williams and Jeff Nix. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Sutphen, Marshall Sutphen, Greenwood Fire Department employees and former Rite-A-Way Electric employees. Visitation was from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to North Greenwood Baptist Church's Forward by Faith Ministry, 615 Grand Blvd., Greenwood, MS 38930.
