CALHOUN CITY - Melvin C. Smith, 78, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at his residence. He was a retired plant manager for Caviness Woodwork in Calhoun City. He was a member of the Calhoun City Church of the Nazarene. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Services were held Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 at Pryor Funeral Home in Calhoun City with Rev. Danny Spratlin officiating. Burial was in New Gauley Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Yancydine Harpole Smith of Calhoun City; four daughters, Melinda Hood and friend, Jay Mann, of Okolona, Teresa Moses of Tupelo, Brenda Grimes (Geof) of Mooreville and Sandra Mooneyham (Jimmy) of Vardaman; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Harrelson of Calhoun City and Donice Terry of Bruce. He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Marvin Smith; his mother, Sammy Golson Sims Smith; his brother, Prentiss Smith; a sister, Doris Suggs; and a daughter, Sheila Smith.
