Bio

Johnny Daryl Cate 60, a veteran and a Native Texan & Direct Descendant of the Cate Family of the early settlers of Tarrant County. Johnny was born November 30, 1951 in Ft. Worth to Ira H & Sarah Lee Cate. Grandparents: R. D. & Bertha Smith Lucas and James & Lenora Iles Cate. Passed away September 11th at a VA hospital in Phoenix AZ. Preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Daughter Myshel Cate, Brothers: Ray, Totsy, Curtis, Gary L, Cate, George Cates and his wife Edith, sister Frances Cates Harris and her husband Oscar, Sister Myrtle Cates Cofer and her husband Robert Cofer, Brother-in-law's William "Bill" Smith & Robert "Johnny" Johnson. Survived by his wife Cindy Cate of Fort Worth, and daughters: Melinda and Son-in-law Charlton Jeffrey of Platteville, Colorado, Marcie "Josie" Cate, Stormie Cate and Leslie Cate of Prescott Arizona. Sons: Christopher M and daughter-in-law Safula Cate of Clyde, Texas, Shawn Cate of Nashville, Tennessee, Ryan Cate New York. Grandchildren: Declan, Tristen, Pierce, Noah, Jaycee, Mariyah . Sisters: Janice Johnson of Nashville, Tennessee, & Beverly Smith, of Fort Worth, Texas Brother: Robert McKinney, Sister-in-law: Betty McKinney of North Richland Hills, Texas. Aunt Patsy Hardin of Haltom City, many loved cousins, nephews and nieces. . Johnny had a love for music, played guitar and drums, and enjoyed the art of debate. He loved his Dallas Cowboys. Johnny proudly served in both the Air Force and Army. Family was a priority to him and was proud to spend his final days surrounded in the love and care of his children and grandchildren. Memorial Services October 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. Lonesome Dove Baptist Church Southlake TX Interment to follow at Dallas Ft Worth National Cemetery October 11, 2012 at 2:30 P.M Early years Johnny lived in Haltom City attended Birdville Elementary and Haltom Jr High School until the death of both of his parents then he moved to Nashville Tennessee to live with his sister Janice and brother in law RL Johnson to finish school then he returned to DFW is where he meet Cindy in 1972, before joining the Air Force. After his enlistment was up he and Cindy returned back DFW but had a hard time finding a job so he tried to re-enlist into the Air Force but could not with the same pay so he enlisted in the Army. He was going to try to make a career of the Military. Until the mysterious illness began to take its shape which later he found out that it was side effects of Agent Orange while being in the DMZ Zone in Korea and Vietnam he had to retire from the Army once he became sick . Johnny was a very proud man he withstood many days of unbearable pain. But never complained.
