From Benson County Farmers Press. Marvin L. Olson, 78, of Salem, Ore., formerly of the Maddock area, died Jan. 2, 2000 in Salem, Ore. A memorial service will be held in the spring at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Minnewaukan. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock is in charge of arrangements. Marvin Lester Olson was born Dec. 31, 1921 to Martin & Andrine Erickson Olson in Albert Township near Maddock. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Minnewaukan. He was raised near Maddock & attended Albert Rural School #2. He farmed with his father before joining the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1941 he moved to Gresham, Ore. to work in the shipyards. He entered the US Army & served with the 845th Engineer Battalion during World War II. In 1966 he moved to Eugene, Ore., where he was a mill worker & worked for Weyerhauser for 15 years. He retired in 1983 & moved to Salem, Ore. in 1996. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars & Eagles & a former member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Minnewaukan. He enjoyed playing cards. Survivors include 3 sons, James of Medical Lake, Wash., David of Salem, Ore. & Robert of Bothell, Wash.; 3 daughters, Michelle McDaniels of Camden, Tenn., Karen Schatz of Spokane, Wash. & Andrine Harland of Salem, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; & 3 sisters, Gladys Innis of Gresham, Ore., Edith Togstad of Maddock & Lenora Hanson of Devils Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Bennie, Thalmer, Harold & Lloyd Olson; & 3 sisters, Agnes Olson, Beatrice Koehler & Alma Olson. Supplied by Curtis Yri #48322430
