Edith Togstad, 93, of Maddock, ND, died Thursday, February 7, 2013, at the Heart of America Medical Center Hospital in Rugby. Funeral services will be Monday, February 11, 2013, 2:00 PM at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6:30pm with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock. Casket bearers will be: Eugene Togstad, Kevin Matney, Jim Gilbertson, Matt Gilbertson, Charles Nelson and Rodger Williams. Honorary bearers will be the Staff and Residents of Maddock Memorial Home. Music will be from Arlyss Bergrud, soloist with Jennifer Hagen, pianist. Edith Olson was born July 6, 1919 to Martin and Andrine (Erickson) Olson on a farm in McClellan Township near Maddock, ND. She was raised there and attended Albert Township rural school. Edith was treated for Tuberculosis at San Haven in 1938, 1941 and again in 1950. Edith worked as a waitress in Devils Lake for a time before her marriage to George Togstad on November 14, 1944 in Devils Lake. They farmed in the Maddock and Sheyenne areas, moving into Maddock in 1959. She baby sat for area families from the 1970's and into the mid 1980's. After 63 years together, George passed away in 2007. She later moved to the Maddock Memorial Home and resided there until her death. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Minnewaukan and a longtime member of North Viking Lutheran Church and WELCA in Maddock. She enjoyed reading, embroidering, crocheting and knitting. Above all she loved her family and especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grateful for having shared in her life are a son and daughter-in-law: Glenn and Jeanette Togstad of Sioux City, IA; a grandson: Eugene (Carlye) Togstad of Memphis, TN; a granddaughter: Michelle (Kevin) Matney of Sioux City, IA; great-grandchildren: Carson George Togstad, Paige Elizabeth Matney and Zoey Alexis Matney and a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: George on December 13, 2007; a son: Timothy on November 15, 2007; siblings: Bennie Olson, Tom Olson, Beatrice Solheim, Gladys Innis, Agnes Olson, Lenora Hanson, Marvin Olson, Harold Olson, Lloyd Olson and Alma Olson as an infant.
