Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Friday, June 1, 1973 Michael "Mike" Sok, a resident of 405 E. Seventh, and an operating engineer, died Thursday following a long illness. He had been seriously ill the past six months. Funeral rites will be observed at 10 p.m. Monday in St. Mary's Cathedral. the Rev. Raymond Kosmicki will offer the Mass of the Resurrection. (Some funeral arrangements omitted here) Interment is to be in Ord Cemetery. Michael Joseph Sok was born July 5, 1909 at Petersburg, the son of Peter and Anna Volfhoski (sp?) Sok. When he was a small child the family moved to Loup City and it was there that he received his education. He and Miss Marie Gross were married June 21, 1938 at Ord. They moved to Los Angeles where he was employed in an aircraft factory. In 1945 they returned to Ord for ten years. They later went to Florida and then to South Carolina with his work. In 1968 they returned to Grand Island and have resided here since. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and was a member of St. Mary's Parish. Survivors include his widow; six daughters, Mrs. Robert (Lourdine) Butlers of Fountain Inn, S. C., Mrs. Richard (Elaine) Guffey of Omaha, Diane, Cindy and Marilyn all of Grand Island and Connie of Greenville, S.C.; six sons, Myron of Sumpter, S.C., Robert, Eugene, Mitchell and Kevin all of Grand Island and Michael of St. Paul; three brothers, Frank of Los Angeles, Leo of Loup City and Floyd of Arkansas; five sisters, Sister Lourdine and Sister Marysia both of Los Angeles, Sister Pauline of San Diego, Mrs. Stanley Adams of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Mrs. Robert Marshall of Chicago and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
