Bio

ASHTON - Ralph D. Slobaszewski, 88, of Ashton died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Good Samaritan Society in Ravenna. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City, with the Rev. Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Slobaszewski was born April 25, 1924, at Ashton to Steve I. and Domicella (Roschynialski) Slobaszewski. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice. Survivors of the immediate family include a brother, Alvin Slobaszewski of Ashton; a sister, Elaine Mrkvicka of Grand Island; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Sharon Krzycki of Ashton. Additional survivors include three stepgrandchildren, eight stepgreat-grandchildren, three nephews, three nieces and a special young man, James (Charlie) Kusek and his family of Rockville. He grew up in Ashton and attended school District 54 to the 8th grade. He married Alice Hughs on Dec. 28, 1959, at Paplin. His whole life was dedicated to farming. He was a machinist, inventor and a carpenter at heart. His greatest passion and hobby was his shop. Most of the tools in his shop were engineered and hand made by him. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Rosemary Slobaszewski. Published in The Grand Island Independent on September 29, 2012
