Bio

Ike Korenek, 77, of Rockdale, passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2 in Scott & White Hospital in Temple surrounded by his loving wife and children. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale, with Father Ramon Frayna officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Visitation will be held at 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Rosary at 7 p.m. led by Deacon Don Sims. Ike was born in Dubina, Texas, to the late Frank V. and Annie S. (Janecka) Korenek. He came to Rockdale in 1956 when he went to work for Alcoa as a pot liner. On Jan. 12, 1957 he married Nettilee Perrard in Weimar. Ike was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a founding member of the Rockdale Knights of Columbus Council 7014. He was instrumental in building the K. of C. Hall in 1979 where he served as hall manager until 2005. He was also a 4th Degree Knight. Ike served on the Board of Directors for Rockdale Federal Credit Union, RVOS Insurance and the United Steelworkers of America Local 4895. Family was the most important thing in his life. He enjoyed working at Alcoa, his church, the K. of C. and gardening. Camping, fishing, playing dominoes and spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends were among his favorite things to do. Anyone who needed help could call on Ike. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Ann in 1961; a son, Joseph Charles in 1967; and a brother, Joe L. Korenek. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nettilee, of Rockdale; sons, Michael Korenek and wife, Genella, and Alan Korenek and wife, Vickie, of Rockdale; daughter, Teresa Shaw and husband, Mitch, of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Amanda Burris and husband, Damon, of Huntsville, Amy Korenek and fiancé, Steven Caffey, Jason Korenek, of Rockdale, Randy Korenek and fiancée, Brittney Schmidtke, of Austin, Garrett Korenek, of Rockdale and Cade, Rylee and Hannah Shaw, of Corpus Christi; great grandchildren, Lillie and Eli Burris, of Huntsville, and Liam Korenek, of Austin; brothers, Frank C. Korenek and wife, Bea, of Minerva, and William E. Korenek and wife, Isyjean, of Rockdale; sister, Annie Mae Ripper and husband, Walter, of Schulenburg; as well as many other relatives and friends.
