Funeral services for William Edward "Willie" Korenek, 71 of Rockdale will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2014 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will be 3:00 p.m. in the Jewish Cemetery in Hallettsville. Visitation is 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:30 P.M. that evening. William Edward "Willie" Korenek, a son of Frank Victor and Annie Sophie (Janecka) Korenek was born September 7, 1942 in Dubina, Fayette County, Texas. He and Isyjean Pinchin were married October 28, 1961 in Houston. They have lived the past 50 years in Rockdale. Willie served in the National Guard from September 24, 1959 to September 23, 1967. He was a member of Grand Lodge of Sons of Hermann and a former member of Jaycee's in Rockdale. He was a former Boy Scout Leader and baseball coach. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and bowling in couples league and men's league. Willie was a retiree of Alcoa. He had worked 32 years from 1963 to 1995, and was in environmental control. He later retired from Rockdale I.S.D. after 14 years, first as a bus driver and then as Transportation Director. Currently he worked as a bus driver for "The Hop" Hill Country Transit. Willie passed away Monday, February 3, 2014 at his home after a sudden illness. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ignac "Ike" Korenek and Joseph "Joe" Korenek. Surviving family is his wife, Isyjean Korenek of Rockdale. Daughter, Denise Korenek Meyer and husband Harvey of Schulenburg. Son, Darrell Korenek and wife Miki of Weatherford. Brother, Frank C. Korenek and wife Bea of Minerva. Sister, Annie Mae Ripper and husband Walter of Schulenburg. Sisters-in-law, Nettilee Korenek of Rockdale and Carla Haydon of Georgetown. Six grandchildren, Christina "Tina" Korenek, Parker Lynn Korenek and Abbigal "Abbie" Korenek all of Weatherford, Ashley Nicole Meyer, Britny Dawn Meyer and Dustin Vaughn Meyer all of Schulenburg.
