Son of Anton and Katie (Andel) Svoboda. Married (1) Agnes Roh on October 23, 1894 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Abie, Nebr. Svoboda, 89, longtime funeral director, died late Thursday afternoon, Aug. 15, at Memorial Hospital after a two and a half month illness. Rosary was recited Monday evening at Svoboda Funeral Home. A prayer service at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, was followed by Requiem Mass at 9 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Victor E. Herman officiated. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery at Abie. The Rev. Raymond Roh of David City, a nephew of the deceased, and Rev. Michael S. Danko of Abnie assisted in the sanctuary and at the graveside rites, respectively. Serving as pallbearers were Edmund, Arden and Verne Svoboda, Milo and Leonard Palensky and Richard Shimerka. Peter Frank Svoboda, son of Anton and Catherine Andel Svoboda, was born Oct. 10, 1873, in a dugout on a Saunders County homestead on which his parents and their seven children settled two years earlier when they came to this country. He attended the rural school near his home – when he reachen maturity he was a member of the school’s board for 30 years – and a business school in Lincoln. He left the homestead which he still owned in 1922 and came to Schuyler. Mr. Svoboda was a funeral director for 59 years, the past 10 years he assisted his son, Edward Svoboda. Mr. Svoboda and Agnes Roh were married Oct. 24, 1895, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Abie. She died in 1916. In 1919 he married Mary Bukacek. She preceded him in death in 1935. He is survived by three sons, Edward of Schuyler, Raymond of Bellevue and James of Prague; three daughters, Miss Agnes at home, Anna, Mrs. Charles Palensky of Schuyler, and Clara, Mrs. Vince Shimerka of Prague; 16 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren. The last of his family, Mr. Svoboda was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
