The Brazosport Facts, August 7, 2006: Ernest Doyle Brown Sr., age 85, of Lane City, died Thursday, August 3, 2006 in a Houston hospital. He was born on May 23, 1921 in Bastrop, Texas, son of the late John Homer and Susie Colander (Bush) Brown. Mr. Brown was a long-time resident of Wharton. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge. He was awarded the American Defense Ribbon, the American Theatre Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon. He married Ethel Evelyn Morris on September 12, 1947 in Bartlett. She preceded him in death on August 20, 1985. Mr. Brown worked for Cochran Motor Co. in Wharton as a mechanic for many years. He enjoyed spending time raising his cattle, chickens and hunting with his grandchildren, and loved to mow the lawn.
