Bio

Beulah was born September 6, 1916 at Bull Run, VA in Wise County, died October 21, 2004 in Roanoke,Virginia. She was married to Orbin Dean on September 17, 1938. Orbin died December 13, 2003. Beulah was the daughter of the late Samuel Patton Holbrook and Pearley Hamilton Holbrook . She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas Floyd Holbrook and Sarah Catherine Holbrook ; seven brothers, Ervin G. Holbrook , Samuel Franklin Holbrook , Albert Bruce Holbrook , Clifford Eugene Holbrook , Homer Gilbert Holbrook , Edward Paul Holbrook , and Chester Wayne Holbrook, Sr. and two sisters, Gladys LouEmma Holbrook Kirk , and Learley Medford "Little Sis" Holbrook. She is survived by seven children: Bobby H. Dean and wife Patty, Gray, TN; Billy F. Dean and wife Sheila, Wheaton, MD; Harry E. Dean and wife Marie, Mineral, VA; Jerilyn S. Bennett and husband John, Leland, NC; Glenda Burton and husband John, MD; Judy K. Davenport and husband Ken, Santa Rosa, CA; Ronald E. Dean and wife Carol, Roanoke, VA. She is also survived by one sister Helen Holbrook Thomas, Castlewood, VA and one brother Howard "Bud" Holbrook and wife Hazel, Knoxville, TN. Beulah was an avid reader, an eloquent writer, and a poet. She had beautiful handwriting. Beulah had to wait 4 years after she got out of school at Dwina before she could attend High School, because there was no transportation. Beulah liked to do research on both sides of her family. She worked hard on finding the information contained in her family tree genealogy. She helped to write the book on the Meade family. Holbrook on the Clinch was dedicated to her memory. Beulah was the grandmother of eighteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, including three sets of twins (one fraternal, one set of identical boys, and one set of identical girls).
