Bio

The Wellington Leader March 18, 2004 J.D. Poling of Altus, OK, died Monday, March 8, 2004 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was 84 years of age at the time of his death. Born October 23, 1919 in Arlie to Daniel James and Luttie Powell Poling, he graduated from high school in Dodson. He married Ima Ballard Sept. 21, 1951. He entered the United States Army in 1942 participating in both WW II and the Korean War before retiring as a master Sergeant with a medical disability in 1953. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, coin collecting and listening to Swap Shop on the radio. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Leona Covey; one sister-in-law, Gladys Poling; four brothers, Dillon, Weldon, Ted and Billy Poling and a grandchild; Timmy Clendennen. Survivors include his wife, Ima of Altus; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Eddie Clendennen of Altus, OK; Karen and Johnny Newell of Springer; Peggy and Gary Mullen of Indianapolis, IN and LaDonna Aubrey of North Richland Hills; two sons and daughters-in-laws, Geary and Sue Poling of Lawton, OK and Danny and Judy Poling of Fort Worth; Four sisters-in-law, Goldie Poling of Childress; Katie Horton and husband, Ed, of Borger; Faye Dill and husband, Clint of Bedford and Lula Bell Krivoy of Altus; two brothers-in-law, Ed Ballard and wife, Reva of Altus and Sam Ballard and wife, Sicola of Altus and 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
