Bio

Born January 27, 1821 in Matějov #16, Okres Žďár nad Sázavou, Vysočina, Czech Republic and baptized the same day, the daughter of Karel Chalupa and his wife Barbora Košťálová. Married at Matějov on November 15, 1842 to František Růžička. They were the parents of six children. František died at Matějov on August 3, 1862. Immigrated to the United States with her daughter and son-in-law Anna and Julius Cihacek on the steamship Nurnberg which arrived in New York City from Bremen, Germany on June 18, 1881. The passenger list includes the following: Julius Cihacek (age 22, house joiner), Maria (24, wife), Maria (2, child), Raimond (1, child), Carl Cihacek (22, bricklayer), Apol. Ruzicka (59, farmer), and Barbara Hajduschek (11, child, unclear if she belongs to this family group or another). All were from Bohemia. According to the 1885 census (which spells her name Apoline Rozicha), she was 66 years old, born Bohemia, and lived in Linwood Township, Butler County, Nebr. with Joseph and Frances Ustopal [ Ustohal ] and their children. The census calls her Joseph's mother-in-law. In 1900 Apolena Ruzicka, widow, born December 1820 in Moravia, lived with Joseph and Fanny Ustohal in Linwood Township. The census lists her relationship as mother.
