According to her probate file she died at Abie on March 29, 1930 and was survived by the following heirs: her five children Joseph of Abie, Frank of Octavia, Alosia Homolka of Ulysses, Mary Hladky of Abie, Anna Geath, address unknown; and grandchildren (the children of her deceased children): Mary Svanda of Ulysses, Caroline Kutka of Brainard, Rose Pospisil of Ulysses, Frank Makovicka of Bellwood, Joseph Makovicka of Bellwood, Anna Styskal of Grant, Susie Makovica (age 18 years) of Rising City, and Emil Makovica (age 17 years) of Rising City. Abie, April 1 – Mrs. Josephine Lajba, widow of John Lajba, died Saturday morning, March 29, at 5:10 o'clock, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John V. Hladky, at Abie, at the age of 95 years. Mrs. Lajba's maiden name was Josephine Peshek. She was born in Czecho-Slovakia and grew to womanhood there. She was married there to John Lajba. They came to America 55 years ago and settled in Pennsylvania where they lived for three years and then came to Nebraska. Mr. Lajba homesteaded land five miles northwest of Abie, this land still farmed by Mr. and Mrs. Lajba's sons, Joseph and Frank Lajba. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lajba, six of whom and Mr. Lajba preceded Mrs. Lajba to the Great Beyond. Mr. Lajba died nine years ago. Mrs. Lajba is survived by two sons, Frank and Joseph, both living near Abie, and two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Homolka of Ulysses and Mrs. John V. Hladky of Abie, and by 25 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, March 31, at 10 a.m., at Ss. Peter's and Paul's church in Abie, Rev. Victor Mlejnek officiating. The pallbearers were Louis Homolka, Emil Homolka, Louis Hladky, Frank Makovicka, Joseph Makovicka and Joseph Korinek, nephews of Mrs. Lajba. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery one-half mile north of Abie.
